Slovenian and Croatian ombudsmen closely follow the Joras case

The deputy ombudsman of Croatia Željko Tir informed the Slovenian Human Rights Ombudsman Matjaž Hanžek that the joint efforts of the Slovenian and Croatian institutions for the protection of human rights had borne fruit in the case of Joško Joras.

In close cooperation with his Croatian colleagues, the ombudsman kept a close watch on the case in point, and was ready to take forthright action if during the time Joras was serving his sentence his rights were violated. Deputy Croatian ombudsman Tir kept the Slovenian ombudsman informed every day of the progress of Joras’s sentence in the prison at Pula, and then in the Zagreb hospital for detainees, and of all other efforts to secure respect of the rights of the imprisoned person.
