Seminar on responsibility and due diligence in business operations in Slovenia

The Human Rights Ombudsman (Ombudsman), in cooperation with the environmental organization Focus and the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana, organized a seminar entitled Responsibility and Due Diligence in Business Operations in Slovenia: Analysis of the Situation, Legal Framework, Good Practices, and Supportive Environment, which took place on Friday, February 6, 2026, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Golden Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana.

Today, companies have a significant impact on human rights, working conditions, and the environment—not only at home but throughout global supply chains. Without proper due diligence systems, there is a risk that human rights violations and environmental damage will be "hidden" in complex supply chains, where they remain invisible to the public and uncontrolled. The European Union and international organizations are therefore strengthening requirements for transparency, accountability, and due diligence with the aim of preventing human rights violations and environmental damage.

Slovenia faces several challenges in this regard: from the quality of sustainability reporting and the maturity of risk management in companies to the establishment of an effective support environment, including the operation of the OECD National Contact Point. At the same time, the European legislative framework is developing rapidly, which will have a significant impact on future business practices and corporate obligations.

The seminar offered:
insight into the latest analyses of corporate reporting in Slovenia and the EU,
examples of good practices from Slovenia and abroad,
a discussion on the role and expectations of the OECD National Contact Point,
an expert view of upcoming European legislative requirements and their impact on Slovenian companies,
a space for dialogue between representatives of companies, the state, academia, trade unions, and civil society.

The event was intended for representatives of companies, state institutions, experts, students, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders who encounter issues of responsible and sustainable business, human rights protection, environmental standards, and the implementation of European legislation in their work, both in practice and in theory.
