Ombudsman Svetina and his deputy Šelih meet with the Greek Ombudsman

On Monday, 2 December 2019, Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina and his deputy Ivan Šelih paid an official visit to Athens, Greece, at the invitation of Greek Ombudsman Andreas Pottakis. At the meeting, they discussed good cooperation between the institutions and activities within the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen, chaired by the Greek Ombudsman. The greatest attention was paid to the operation of the Nafplion Group, which will be hosted by the Slovenian Ombudsman next year.

On this occasion, Mr Svetina responded to the invitation of the Greek Parliament and addressed the members of the Public Order and Justice Committee and the Subcommittee for People with Disabilities, which operates within the Special Standing Committee on Equality, Youth and Human Rights. He presented the work and organisation of the Slovenian National Human Rights institution and shared his experience in the employment of persons with disabilities in Slovenia with the members of the Greek Parliament. Deputy Šelih then presented the work, duties and powers of Slovenia's National Preventive Mechanism. The members of the Greek Parliament listened with great interest to their presentation and thanked them for their guidance and sharing of experience and good practices.
