Today, 10 August, Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina invited the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia, Professor Dr Matej Accetto, and the President of the Court of Audit, Jana Ahčin, to a meeting. They discussed the situation in their respective institutions and the cooperation between them. They agreed that cooperation between the institutions was good and that they were both indispensable, each within their own constitutional and legislative powers, to the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.
More generally, they exchanged views on current issues concerning respect for human rights and democratic values, the protection of which was entrusted to all three institutions by the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia. They also touched upon the not yet executed decision of the Constitutional Court concerning the financial autonomy of independent state institutions, which found certain provisions of the Public Finance Act to be unconstitutional.
