Ombudsman Hands Over the 28th Annual Report to the Minister of Public Administration

Varuh ministrici za javno upravo predal letno poročilo

Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina handed over the Annual Report for 2022 to the Minister of Public Administration Sanja Ajanović Hovnik. They agreed that the Ombudsman’s recommendations must be met efficiently, be that in regards to systemic legislative changes or improving the operation of state bodies.

In connection with the lengthiness of procedures dealing with matters related to foreigners at the administrative units of Ljubljana and Maribor, to which the Ombudsman brings attention in the annual report, Minister Ajanović Hovnik pointed out that based on the option of transferring territorial jurisdiction, enabled by the State Administration Act, administrative units with fewer active cases took over some of the matters relating to foreigners from the busier administrative units of Maribor and Ljubljana. They have been successful in solving them through interdepartmental cooperation, which has been deemed an example of best practice by the Ombudsman and he also commended the work of the Domžale and Kamnik administrative units. The Minister also emphasised the efforts to achieve a systematic approach, modernisation, and optimisation of the back office of administrative units which is being prepared with the purpose of improving the quality and accessibility of public services for all users.
