Ombudsman Hands over the 2022 Annual Report to the Minister of Education

Varuh ministru za vzgojo in izobraževanje predal letno poročilo za leto 2022

Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina handed over the annual report for last year to the Minister of Education Dr Darjo Felda. They talked about the challenges that, according to findings in the report, should be addressed in the future. They focused on the fact that a safe and encouraging learning environment must be ensured for all children and employees in the educational institutions, while the occurrence of peer violence should be tackled with the appropriate legislative regulations.

Inter alia, the Minister and the Ombudsman discussed the importance of volunteering in schools, the significance of inter-generational cooperation, and ensuring the rights of people with special needs. The Ombudsman emphasised that during his current mandate, cooperation between the two bodies has improved significantly and he also welcomes the timely response of the ministry to complaints and recommendations.

Last but not least, the Minister and the Ombudsman agreed about the common goal that school must not become solely an educational institution for the transfer of learning content, but rather its upbringing aspect should in the future be emphasised and strengthened.
