On Tuesday, 14 November 2023, Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina attended a celebratory event upon the 20th anniversary of the Društvo Mozaik society in Murska Sobota. The society works for the inclusion of vulnerable social groups. In the twenty years of their operation, they have helped more than 800 vulnerable persons find jobs and created more than 80 work positions for vulnerable social groups.

At the event, Ombudsman Svetina emphasised that Društvo Mozaik is an example of best practice that has been striving for twenty years to connect and realise the needs of vulnerable social groups. He believes that without civil society this part of Slovenia would not have seen such progress. “Adjusting the environment and service accessibility is essential in so that all people can realise their needs under the same conditions. This way, we will not only be socially responsible but will also enrich our environment and relationship towards others, while at the same time becoming stronger as a society,” said Ombudsman Svetina.

He congratulated all those behind the successful work of Društvo Mozaik and said that without cooperation and networking the Pomurje region would not have such a success story which creates a social economy ecosystem. “You are an important part in a mosaic of stories contributing to putting people and their dignity at the forefront. The society not only strengthens inter-generational cooperation but also raises awareness about the importance of living in harmony,” said the Human Rights Ombudsman at the celebration of this milestone anniversary.
