The Ombudsman pays a fact-finding visit to the Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Food

Ombudsman Peter Svetina received the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Mateja Čalušić, for a familiarisation meeting.

He informed her about some of the cases in which the Ombudsman's institution draws attention to human rights violations, such as the problematic siting of residential buildings in agricultural areas, intensive cultivation of land such as hop fields, permanent plantations, etc.

During the conversation, they touched upon the current demands of farmers and also discussed rural poverty, the lengthy decision-making process of the Slovenian Agency for Agricultural Markets and Rural Development and the operations of the Agricultural Land Fund regarding agricultural land owned by the Republic of Slovenia.
