Today, 12 April 2024, in Velenje, the Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina accompanied the residents and employees of the Hiša s srce (Home with a Heart) home for the elderly into a new era of living in the new building.

He expressed his joy that together they had overcome minor fears and worries ahead of stepping into something unfamiliar. "You have decided that quality ageing is not just about living longer, but living better. It's wonderful when, even in the twilight years, we get new meaning and new possibilities settle into our everyday life. The new living environment offers you these," he emphasised.

The Ombudsman visited the serviced apartments and the construction site of the new home last November, when it was already possible to guess what the shape of the renovated home would be. He expressed his enthusiasm for the work carried out and, above all, for all the residents and employees of the Hiša s srce, who took these new steps boldly and in a spirit of cooperation. The Ombudsman is convinced that they now have the opportunity to introduce the content they want into the quality design of the new home, and that as veterans of overcoming various challenges, they will be able to overcome with honest and open conversation, cooperation and creativity the challenges that always arise in times of change.

He also expressed his belief that together they will take care of each other. "Without thinking of one's fellow man, no house can be joyful and no society humane or inclusive. That's why I believe that together in cooperation and understanding you will create joy for every single one of you," said Ombudsman Svetina as he wished the residents and all employees sincere good wishes and a happy journey into the new chapter of life.
