Human Rights Ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer has presented President Borut Pahor her office's report for last year. The pair discussed various issues, including a recent international report that 4,700 modern-day slaves lived in the country.

Pahor stressed during Thursday's meeting that if that really was the case, it was extremely worrisome, his office said in a press release.

Nussdorfer and Pahor moreover broached the worrying state of healthcare in regards to people's access to services and healthcare providers' attitude to patients.

The ombudsman issued on Tuesday a set of 83 recommendations in the report on the state of human rights in Slovenia that finds recurring problems faced by marginalised groups and the ongoing failure by the authorities to act on recommendations from previous years.

The report is due to be debated by parliament, expectedly in the autumn.
