Human Rights Ombudsman with the Ombudsman for the viewers and listeners’ rights on the events in 2022

Varuhinja pravic gledalcev in poslušalcev RTVSLO in varuh človekovih pravic

Ombudsman Peter Svetina received the Ombudsman for the viewers and listeners’ rights (PGP) of Radiotelevizija Slovenija (RTVSLO), Marica Uršič Zupan. She presented her 2022 report, her first since she started work on 18 January 2022.

She said that last year she had received a record number of responses from viewers and listeners. This was due to the cancellation of some programs, the management of the programs, and the reporting of events in the super-election year, while the audience was also disturbed by the changing programme schedule and general developments at RTV Slovenia. Responses to TV Slovenia's Informative programme dominated in terms of content, but there were also many questions, opinions, and comments on other content.

The RTVSLO PGP Ombudsman also received some responses related to the accessibility of content for people with sensory impairments. Most of them concerned subtitles for persons with hearing impairments and audio subtitles and audio descriptions for persons with visual impairments. She reviewed all with care.

Ombudsman Peter Svetina said that the letters sent to the Ombudsman's institution also showed that there was a sense of unease about what was happening at RTVSLO. The Ombudsman expects that the constitutionally guaranteed position of RTV Slovenija will be respected and that the institution of national importance will no longer be held hostage by any powers that be.
