State Secretary Ivan Eržen Meets at HRO's Premises with Representatives of Civil Society Involved in the Field of Environment and Spatial Planning

Within periodic meetings with civil society, on 25 May 2011, the Slovenian Human Rights Ombudsman (HRO) hosted the 12th meeting with the representatives of civil society in the area of the environment and spatial planning.

On behalf of the Minister of Health, Dorijan Marušič, the meeting, taking place at the HRO's premises, was attended by the State Secretary, Ivan Eržen. The discussion focused on the adverse effects of pollution and activities affecting the physical environment on human health.

The participants informed the state secretary of specific cases giving rise to the belief that due to inadequate inter-ministerial cooperation, the activities of polluters and the standard of spatial planning have diminished the quality of life and the health condition of the population.

At the meeting, the participants agreed on the arrangements related to short-term and long-term activities to be carried by the Ministry of Health in order to promptly and more effectively deal with the issues in question. In view of the actual need for more effective inter-ministerial cooperation, the HRO will organise a joint meeting between the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food.
