Human Rights Ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer and European Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik met Monday to discuss access to water and air pollution. Nussdorfer said access to water was an especially pressing issue in areas with Roma population and illegal builds.

Nussdorfer raised doubts with regards to Slovenia's system of pollution measurements, which are currently being requested and paid for the by the emitter.

She also called for more cooperation between the state and the civil society. She said cooperation was a "bottleneck" in Slovenia, largely because of limited financing and restricted access to environmental data and legal recourse, according to a press release from the ombudsman's office.

Potočnik said access to water is in the domain of member states, adding that Slovenia NGO were also eligible to European funds in this area, including from the EU's LIFE Programme.
