The belief that increasing crime rate requires a constant stepping-up of law enforcement undermines the balance between the effective self-protection of democratic society and the protection of human rights standards, Interior Minister Katarina Kresal told a criminology conference on Thursday, 10. 9. 2009.

The opening was also attended by Justice Minister Ales Zalar, head of the Corruption Prevention Commission Drago Kos, Human Rights Ombudsman dr. Zdenka Cebasek-Travnik, SAZU president Joze Trontelj and Ljubljana University Chancellor Andreja Kocijancic.
