Statistics from the activity of the Provedor de Justiça in the Year 2000

During the year 2000, the Provedor de Justiça had 5,283 new cases. 5,270 were claims, while 13 were from the Provedor&#8217;s initiative. In the same period of time, 8,610 cases were concluded, which means that, in the year 2000, the pendency was reduced from 7,135 processes to 3,808.

Tax Ombudsman

Nowadays, it is in discussion in Portugal the creation of a parliamentary sector-based Ombudsman, specialized in the taxation area. In fact, we already have a Provedor do Contribuinte, which means an Ombudsman for the Taxpayer. However, this figure is nominated by the government and is considered as a critic self-conscience of the Administration.
