Germany, Petitionsausschuss des Deutschen Bundestages
In the mid of 1999 the Petitions Committee of the German Bundestag moved from Bonn to Berlin. In the month of December 2000, almost 18 months later, the Committee Service, currently comprising 85 staff members, also moved to Berlin. The "Directorate for Petitions and Submissions" forms part of the Administration of the German Bundestag and is subdivided into a secretariat and four divisions dealing with petitions. The divisions mirror the structure of the federal ministries, with each division being responsible for the field of competence of specific federal ministries. There is a wide range of areas which has to be covered by comparatively few staff members.

As far as visits abroad are concerned, the Petitions Committee decided to render vitsits to the Ombudsman of Poland (Mai 20001) and the Ombudsmen in Spain (later 2001).
A big event for us on national level will be the meeting of petitions committees and ombudsmen on national and regional level in Germany in Magdeburg on 17/18 June 2001.
Furthermore, a CD-ROM about the work of the Petitions Committee has been published. 'Bundestag Magazin 2/2000' can be ordered directly on the homepage of the German Bundestag at 'bundestag.de' or the Secretariat of the Committee.
