International exchange
- On 21 November 1998, Mr. Lehtimaja hosted a luncheon on the occasion of the Mexican Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Rosario Green's official visit to Finland.
- On 11 December 1998, Mr. Lehtimaja participated as an invited expert in the interviewing of the applicants for the new Flemish Parliamentary Ombudsman in Brussels, Belgium.
- On 13 January 1999, Mr Ole Espersen, Commissioner of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, called on the Ombudsman to discuss the investigation of crimes conducted by the police.
- On 25 January 1999, Mr Ahmed Qurie, Speaker of the Palestianian Legislative Council, called on Mr Lehtimaja.
- On 15 March 1999, Mr Lehtimaja met Mr Nelson Mandela, President of the Republic of South Africa, on his official visit to Finland.
- On 26 March 1999, Mr Duan Zhengkun, Deputy Minister of Justice of the People's Republic of China, called on Mr Lehtimaja.
- From 26 April to 3 May, Mr Lehtimaja and Ms Paunio paid an official visit to the People's Republic of China on the invitation of the Chinese Minister of Supervision, Mr He Yong. They visited Beijing, Xi'an and Nanjing, getting acquainted with the supervisory activities of the Ministry at the national, provincial and local level. They also visited the legislative committee of the People's Congress and the Supreme Court of the People's Republic.
