On 29 September 2000 my term of office of the first Human Rights Ombudsman in Slovenia came to an end. Since the Slovene parliament has not supported with the necessary two thirds majority my re-election for the second mandate after 29 September 2000 I am not serving anymore as the Slovene Human Rights Ombudsman. The interim head of the institution will be until the election of new ombudsperson my first deputy Mr Aleš Butala, who has been appointed in the parliament, together with two other deputies Mr France Jamnik and Mr Jernej Rovšek, for another 6 year term of office. I hope to stay also in future in contact with colleagues ombudsmen and I will do my best to use gathered experience for the benefit of both the national human rights institution in my country and whole ombudsmanship.
