INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

A great number of foreign visitors have been received. Among the visits, the following may be mentioned.

  • The Parliamentary Ombudsmen and Parliament´s Committee on the Constitution hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Supervision, People´s Republic of China through May 14–19. The Chinese delegation of six persons was headed by Senior Supervisory Commissioner (former Minister) Cao Qing Ze. A programme was arranged, including visits to Parliament, the Ministry of Justice, the Court of Appeal in Malmö, many state authorities with supervisory or auditing functions in Stockholm and Malmö, the City Executive Board of Malmö municipality and the House of the Press in Stockholm.

  • In cooperation with the Parliamentary Ombudsmen the Ministry for Foreign Affairs arranged a meeting in Stockholm with representatives of the Ombudsman institutions in Albania, Macedonia, Croatia and Bosnia/Hercegovina, May 8–12. The meeting was arranged within the framework of the Stability Pact for South-East Europe. The two first days were devoted to discussions with the Swedish Parliamentary Ombudsmen and members of their staff about the tasks, the work and the way of functioning of the Swedish institution.

  • The Public protector of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Selby Baqwa visited the Parliamentary Ombudsmen May 8-11. He had discussions with his Swedish colleagues on topics of common interest and paid visits to a couple of State Agencies. He also made a presentation of his institution in South Africa to the guests from a number of Balkan States, mentioned above.

  • A governmental delegation from Bangladesh was received for a three days stay through May 11–13. Their programme included a presentation of the Swedish Parliamentary Ombudsmen, discussions with some of the Ombudsmen and members of the staff and visits to a couple of State Authorities.

  • Delegations and visitors have also been received from – among other countries –Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Vietnam and Canada.

  • Mr. Claes Eklundh, Chief Parliamentary Ombudsman, has participated in conferences and seminars in Prague (April) and Maastricht (May).

  • Mr. Kjell Swanström, Head of Staff, participated in a seminar in Podgorica, Montenegro in April, arranged by OSCE/ODIHR and the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro (within the framework of the Stability Pact for South-East Europe).
