On 19 March the Slovakian parliament voted in Slovakia’s first ombudsman. In a secret ballot Paval Kandrač, a candidate from the HZDA party, received the votes from 69 of the 128 MPs present. The first attempt to elect an ombudsman on 19 February was unsuccessful, as none of them received the requisite number of votes.
