The Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia is hosting the third annual meeting of the European NPM Network taking place on 6 and 7 December 2011 at Brdo pri Kranju.
The Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia, Zdenka Čebašek-Travnik, opened the meeting by emphasising the importance of National Preventive Mechanisms in the context of the protection of human rights. Moreover, she expressed her satisfaction that she could host this event shortly before the forthcoming International Human Rights Day, on 10 December.
In his address, the State Secretary at the Slovenian Ministry of Justice, Boštjan Škrlec, outlined the ministry's activities in this area and reaffirmed Slovenia's commitment to the implementation of recommendations put forward by the Ombudsman in the capacity of the NPM.
The two-day meeting is being attended by heads and contact persons of these institutions and by the representatives of the Sub-Committee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT).
