Ombudsman dr. Zdenka Cebasek - Travnik said on Tuesday that when it comes to discoveries such as the one in Lasko, the respect of the dignity of the victims and their families should be the primary concern and be given priority over sensationalist media coverage. Adults should explain the images to their children, she stressed.
The decision on when should the images of the victims' remains appear on television is in the hands of editors, but adults should definitely explain them to their children, dr. Cebasek - Travnik said, adding that it would be good if they discussed the issue at school as well.
According to the ombudsman, adults should highlight the tragedy of all after-war and other killings and teach the children that conflicts should be always resolved in a peaceful manner, without violence, hatred and intolerance.
Dr. Cebasek - Travnik moreover noted that all known locations of the mas graves in Slovenia should be uncovered and investigated and that proper memorials should be erected to the victims, so that their relatives could say good bye to them in a dignified way.
