The Human Rights Ombudsman was today, 15 February, acquainted with the execution procedure in Prekmurje concerning the award of custody of a female minor to one of the parents. Because the events were followed by the reporters, we are warning that another media exposure of the family would worsen their situation, which is definitely not in the best interests of the minor.

The Human Rights Ombudsman assesses that media exposure of children in such cases is explicitly to their detriment and contrary to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, also ratified by the Republic of Slovenia.

In the name of all minor children we are asking all reporters and editors not to expose minor children in their articles, even if they themselves and/or one of the parents give consent to such exposure.
