• On 11 May 1999, the representatives of a working party for democratic institutions of the Council of the Baltic Sea States paid a visit to Parliamentary Ombudsman Lauri Lehtimaja.
  
  
• On 31 May 1999, the delegation of the Central American Parliament, headed by Mr. Carlos Roberto Reinan, visited Mr. Lehtimaja. Mr. Ramiro de Leon Carpio, the former Ombudsman for Human Rights of Guatemala, accompanied the delegation.
  
  
• On 10 June 1999, the Finnish Parliamentary Ombudsman and the Finnish Chancellor of Justice jointly organised a seminar in connection with the visit of the Estonian Chancellor of Justice to Finland. The seminar dealt with the supervision of legality in Estonia and in Finland.
  
  
• On 2 July, Vice President Chen Meng-Ling of the Control Yuan (Ombudsman) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) paid a visit to the Finnish Parliamentary Ombudsman.
  
  
• On 26 August 1999, the European Ombudsman, Mr. Jacob Söderman, visited the Finnish Parliamentary Ombudsman's office and lectured on the principles of good governance embodied in the Code of Good Administrative Behavior for EU bodies and institutions.
