Human rights ombudsman nomination procedure starts

President Borut Pahor has published a call for applications for the next human rights ombudsman, with the applications expected to be sent to the president's office by 15 October.

The applications must contain a written consent from the candidate and documents proving the candidate's eligibility, the president's office said on Friday.

The president's pick or picks will present their vision to the public before the National Assembly vote.

The term of the current Human Rights Ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer expires on 23 February 2019, and the procedure to appoint a new human rights ombudsman needs to be launched at least six months before the expiry of the term.

The Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman said in mid-July that Nussdorfer will not run for another six-year term.
