President of Slovenia visited ombudsman

President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor and Human Rights Ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer met on Friday, 5. 1. 2018. They agreed to dedicate special attention to children on the brink of poverty, the ageing society, and the Roma.

After the meeting president Borut Pahor said for the press that forces should be joined in order to achieve more, with Nussdorfer adding that even though neither of them have the executive power, they were often the only hope for marginalised people.

The ombudsman would like new and better practice to replace old ways in the new year when it comes to treatment of the Roma.

The Human Rights Ombudsman will launch a human rights council on 1 June and a centre for human rights will become operational in January 2019.

Special attention will be dedicated this year to senior citizens, including their access to modern technology, domestic violence and older prisoners.

They have also been talking about establishing a special commission to deal with tough cases of injustice, since both institutions are sometimes faced with extremelly difficult stories of people. Possible solutions within the law will be disscoused also wihth state attorney general.
