Prime Minister Miro Cerar and Human Rights Ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer again topped the list of the most influential Slovenian jurists in 2016 by legal consultancy portal IUS Info. The list was compiled based on the opinion of 3,700 users.

The top ten jurists include EU law expert Matej Avbelj, Harvard law lecturer Klemen Jaklič, Neža Kogovšek Šalamon of the Peace Institute NGO, maritime law expert Marko Pavliha, international law professor Vasilka Sancin, constitutional law professor Andraž Teršek, professor of European law Verica Trstenjak and Constitutional Court Judge Jan Zobec.

Cerar, Nussdorfer, Avbelj, Jaklič, Pavliha and Teršek also topped last year's list of the most influential Slovenian jurists.

The users who voted also had a chance to ask the candidates several questions related to current issues. The most frequently asked questions were related to the loss of confidence in the judicial system, free trade agreements and Brexit.

The company IUS Software, which runs the web portal, will host an award ceremony for the top jurists and a round-table debate on the relationship between law and politics at the Lev Hotel in Ljubljana on 30 November.
